Westminster Rescue Mission Expands Feeding Carroll Together Initiative to Combat Summer Hunger in Carroll County

As summer approaches, the Westminster Rescue Mission is proud to announce the expansion of the Feeding Carroll Together initiative, a county-wide effort aimed at alleviating food insecurity in Carroll County, Maryland. Last year's pilot program proved successful, prompting an expansion this year to further support children and seniors facing hunger during the summer months.

During the school year, more than 27% of Carroll County Public School students rely on free and reduced-price meals. With the absence of school meal programs during summer break, families experience heightened financial strain, turning to local food pantries for support. Similarly, seniors on fixed incomes, who rely on food pantries year-round, face challenges as pantry shelves struggle to stay stocked.

The Westminster Rescue Mission plays a pivotal role as a founder and now sponsoring supporter of the Feeding Carroll Together initiative by organizing and maintaining the network of food pantries involved in the effort. In addition, the mission has assembled and continues to maintain the Carroll County Free Food Resource Guide (https://bit.ly/ccfreefood), a comprehensive guide of all the free food resources available in Carroll County. This guide, organized by cities and days of the week, serves as a valuable resource for individuals and families in need. It is accessible online via the Westminster Rescue Mission's website or through a QR code provided on collateral materials distributed county-wide. Furthermore, WRM serves as a central hub of comprehensive information for the Feeding Carroll initiative via its website, offering a full toolkit with community sharing and sponsorship information, collateral materials, social media memes, posting materials, and a dedicated staff available to support the effort by working one-on-one with downstream partner pantries each day.

"We are committed to addressing the critical issue of food insecurity in our community," said Stephanie Halley, CEO at Westminster Rescue Mission. "Expanding Feeding Carroll Together allows us to reach even more individuals and families in need, particularly children and seniors, who are most vulnerable during the summer months."

The Westminster Rescue Mission invites individuals, businesses, and organizations to join the Feeding Carroll Together initiative by donating food items to their neighborhood food pantry, volunteering time, or spreading the word. Together, we can make a meaningful impact in the lives of our neighbors facing food insecurity.
