Teachers of Coffey Music Form Nonprofit “Carroll Music Teachers”
Despite the closure of Coffey Music on Main Street in Westminster, the educational mission of Coffey Music will continue. The nonprofit Carroll Music Teachers (also doing business as “Coffee Music Teachers” on Facebook) includes a network of over 30 instructors available for private instruction, including specialists in virtually every musical instrument and style.
Guitarist and teacher Tim Jenkins said, "This continues to be a real community of gifted musicians and educators dedicated to the idea that teaching, playing, and learning music enriches both the student and the teacher. Learning an instrument can make all the difference to a kid, little or big. I have watched music bring a shy kid out of his or her shell- I've noticed that it gives a form of identity, even. This is the best thing about teaching and I am grateful that the Carroll Music Teachers group can continue this work in the community."
Students of Carroll Music Teachers are often recognized for high levels of achievement in music, including All-State and All-County Band and Orchestra, college scholarships, and top prizes in numerous competitions and music festivals. However, the group’s primary mission remains to cater to anybody with a love of music and a desire to learn, regardless of skill level. From total beginners, to pre-professionals, to neurodivergent learners, private instruction aims to foster each student’s progress with custom-designed lessons, tailored to each student’s specific goals and talents.
Drum instructor Jake Fine added, “We really care about serving the students of this community. I had a chance to work as an employee and teacher at Coffey Music, and I’ve been involved as a classroom music teacher in the CCPS school system. Throughout my experience, I have seen all kinds of people find themselves drawn to music. I love being involved with Carroll Music Teachers because we get to serve all of the different kinds of students in our community, with whatever they are looking for musically. Whatever musical questions people may have, it’s my hope that we can guide them toward the answers.”
