In a unique and captivating move, Ballet Embody announces the expansion of its beloved production, "The Maryland Nutcracker," this December at the Carroll Community College Theater in Westminster, Maryland. 

Maryland Icons and Edgar Allan Poe Join the Nutcracker Magic

Ballet Embody's enchanting The Maryland Nutcracker is set to dazzle audiences on December 9th and 10th, intertwining Maryland's rich heritage with the mystique of Edgar Allan Poe. This spellbinding rendition adds a distinctive twist to the beloved holiday tradition, with Poe stepping into the role traditionally held by Herr Drosselmeyer. Emily Runkle, the artistic director of Ballet Embody and a proud Baltimore native, reflects the sentiment of Maryland pride, stating, "Our beloved state should have a Nutcracker ballet that reflects that. We are excited to bring this to Carroll County for the third time and anticipate it will become a holiday tradition for years to come."

Set to the timeless melodies of Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker, The Maryland Nutcracker weaves a captivating tale of Clara, a Baltimore child, embarking on magical adventures from her Hampden home, across the Chesapeake Bay, and 'Downy Oshun.' This ballet promises to immerse audiences in the unique charm of Maryland, featuring iconic elements such as Oriole birds, Maryland Crabs, and the legendary Edgar Allan Poe.
