Businesses are Invited to Combat Food Insecurity in Carroll County this July (and Beyond)

Plates of Plenty is a campaign to raise awareness and funds to combat hunger in our community. Proceeds will help the Mission Food Program warehouse and provide meat, fresh produce, dairy, and dry goods to our partner network of food pantries, soup kitchens, local charities, and agencies across Carroll County – including the pantries in your community.

  • More than 1 in 3 Carroll County households are one unexpected expense away from financial distress — one car repair, one medical bill, one missed shift. When families face impossible choices between rent, groceries and health care, food pantries provide a critical safety net. (The State of ALICE in Maryland (2024); www.unitedforalice.org/maryland)
  • Almost 20,000 Carroll residents – 11% of the population – are food insecure. (Maryland Food Bank)
  • Nearly 1 in 3 CCPS students qualified for free or reduced meals in 2025-26. When school doors close for summer, those guaranteed meals disappear – and family grocery budgets that were already stretched to the limit take the hit.

This year we are highlighting one region of the county each week during the month of July to coincide with our mobile distributions. Each week we will have activities and messages that tell stories about that region and the wider story of food insecurity in Carroll County.

Join us in July and throughout the year. To learn more about opportunities for your company to support our pantry operations, mobile distributions, hold team-building volunteer events, and more, contact Mark Punchard at 717-309-6066 or mpunchard@WestminsterRescueMission.org.

About the Mission Food Program

Westminster Rescue Mission is dedicated to overcoming the growing problem of food insecurity and hunger in our surrounding communities. The Mission Food Program — the largest re-distributor of food in Carroll County — provides hunger relief through our distribution network and community outreach services in partnership with dozens of area agencies and charities. In FY 2024-2025 the Mission Food Program distributed more than 1.2 million pounds of food into the community – that’s the equivalent of 1 million meals.
