Cable Channel 18 to become Home for CMSportsNet Local Sports Coverage

The Community Media Center (CMC) will assume programming operations of Xfinity cable channel 18 in Carroll County, Maryland on August 25, 2025. At that time, Channel 18 will feature the Central Maryland Sports Network’s (CMSportsNet) local high school and Carroll Lynx sports content including live streaming coverage, highlights and exclusive interviews.

“Being able to chronicle sports in Carroll County, from high school to the college ranks, is a great way to showcase the success and excitement that brings out some of the best in our communities,” said Pat Stoetzer, sports editor and reporter for CMSportsNet. “I’m excited to help guide CMSportsNet in this new and exciting endeavor.”

On August 14, 2025, the Carroll County Cable Regulatory Commission voted unanimously for CMC to assume management, technical responsibility and control over Xfinity Channel 18, and dedicate the channel to CMSportsNet local sports coverage.

The Central Maryland Sports Network (CMSportsNet) is a programming service of the Community Media Center. CMSportsNet continues to expand its coverage and content offerings to provide fans with an ever-increasing number of top-quality local sports productions.

The Community Media Center of Carroll County is one of the first community access centers in the country to serve the growing demand for local sports coverage by programming a channel dedicated exclusively to highlighting the efforts and accomplishments of student athletes in the region. As part of a partnership with Carroll Community College, the CMC will distribute programming of live Carroll Community College Lynx coverage as part of the programming on Channel 18.

Teri Leatherwood, Athletic Director Carroll Community College said, “Carroll Lynx is thrilled to partner with the Community Media Center to reach a wider audience. Carroll is a shining example of what a community college can be, and I believe this opportunity to showcase our athletics and campus life will help more local students discover the incredible opportunities Carroll Community College has to offer. It’s a win-win for our students and our community, with a special thanks to CMC for making this all happen.”

“Carroll Community College is pleased to continue its collaboration with the Community Media Center,” said Michelle Kloss, Ph.D. Vice President, Effectiveness, Integrity, and Accountability, Carroll Community College. “We will enjoy local sports programming – including Lynx sports - on Channel 18 and welcome the opportunity to showcase College programming on Xfinity channel HD-1072.”
