The City of Westminster is seeking a City Planner I or II for the Department of Community Planning and Development. 


This position is responsible for:

  • Providing staff support to the Board of Zoning Appeals, Planning & Zoning Commission, Historic District Commission, and Tree Commission.
  • Coordinates the City and County reviews of development proposals, including subdivisions and site plans; and assists in plans review using City’s zoning code, sign code, landscape manual and design guidelines.
  • Conducts studies and assists in the preparation of plans, reports, recommendations, and correspondence on planning, zoning, development proposals, economic development, zoning amendment petitions, annexation petitions, demographic matters, and environmental issues.
  • Participates in the drafting and review of amendments to the City’s Zoning Code. 
  • Designs and coordinates planning processes for small areas of the City such as neighborhood plans.
  • Provides technical assistance to citizens, public and private sector representatives, and members of the City’s appointed boards and commissions, with respect to land development procedures, zoning requirements, economic development, demographic data, and other information as directed.
  • Assists in the review on building permits. Prepares maps and graphics as required.

Depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate selected, this position will be filled at either the Planner I or Planner II. Possession of a valid Class C Driver’s License is required. 

  • Planner I
    • Requires a bachelor’s degree in a related field and three years of related experience in a governmental setting or equivalent combination of education, training, and related experience. 
  • Planner II
    • Requires a bachelor’s degree in municipal planning or related field and five years of related experience in a governmental setting OR master’s degree in urban, regional, or community planning and three years of related experience in a governmental setting or equivalent combination of education, training, and related experience. 


This position is a full-time, exempt position. Salary will be dependent on experience and qualifications but may not exceed the salary range for new hires for the position filled.

  • Planner I position is a Grade 114 with a Rage of  $56,863.21 to $74,055.97
  • Planner II position is a Grade 115 with a Range of  $61,981.28 to $80,721.10
