Position Summary:
The Floor Lead in the Feline Department at the Humane Society of Carroll County is responsible for overseeing daily operations related to feline care, ensuring a safe, clean, and enriching environment for all cats in the shelter’s care. This position involves supervising a team of staff and volunteers and supporting feline welfare by maintaining high standards of care and adherence to protocol. The Floor Lead works closely with the Feline Coordinator to ensure alignment with organizational goals and to foster an environment that supports both animal and human well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership & Training
- Lead and coordinate the daily activities of the feline care team, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and to high standards.
- Train and support new staff members and volunteers, providing guidance on cat handling, care procedures, and shelter policies.
- Monitor staff performance and report any issues to the Feline Coordinator.
Feline Care & Welfare
- Ensure that all cats are provided with adequate food, water, clean bedding, and enrichment throughout the day.
- Monitor the health and behavior of each cat, identifying any concerns and reporting them promptly to the Feline Coordinator.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, including managing isolation and quarantine areas as necessary.
Facility Maintenance & Cleanliness
- Oversee daily cleaning protocols, ensuring all enclosures, cages, and common areas are maintained to meet health and safety standards.
- Identify and report any maintenance or facility issues to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for animals, staff, and visitors.
Customer Service & Adoptions Support
- Assist potential adopters by answering questions about the cats, providing behavioral insights, and explaining care needs, especially for cats with special conditions.
- Ensure adoption areas are kept clean, organized, and welcoming for the public.
- Address any customer concerns, directing them to appropriate resources or management.
Preferred Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; advanced education or training in animal care, veterinary technology, or related field.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in animal care, ideally in a shelter or veterinary setting, with specific experience in feline care.
- Previous experience in a supervisory or leadership role is preferred.
- Knowledge of common feline health issues, behaviors, and handling techniques.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a team and the public.
- Ability to handle physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 pounds.
