The City of Westminster is seeking a 3rd Shift Plant Operator I that will be responsible for performing a variety of duties at the Water Treatment Plant, treating raw water, and producing potable water in an efficient and effective manner, as defined by State and Federal guidelines.

The Plant Operator operates and backwashes clarifiers/filters to produce potable water, will conduct 2-hour laboratory process testing of water and analyze water samples, and will be responsible for accurately monitoring, reading, and recording information on meters, gauges, and maintaining operating logs. This position will collect water samples from distribution sites, well sites, customers, streams, and raw reservoir and accurately record data. 

  • Requires a High School diploma or General Equivalency Diploma GED; or equivalent combination of education, training and related experience and a Class C driver’s license. 
  • Possession of a valid Temporary Class IV Water Treatment Certification from the State of Maryland within three (3) years of hire, which result in promotion to Certified Operator and the ability to obtain a valid Class B restricted CDL driver’s license within one year on the job.

Rate and Schedule:

This position is a full-time, 3rd shift (11:00 PM to 7:00 AM shift) - 40 hour/week position with a starting hourly rate of $17.76/hour plus $2.6652/hour shift differential; must be able to work in a weekend and holiday rotation.

In as little as 6 months, candidate can be paid as an Operator II after passing the Class IV Water Treatment Exam, which an employee can take as soon as they feel knowledgeable enough in the treatment process to take. Operator II earns $21.11/hour with an additional $3.17/hour as shift differential.
